AMD achieves its highest historical market share in x86 CPUs

The launch of the first generation of Zen CPUs and continued investment in the area have brought very positive results for AMD. According to analysts at Mercury Research, the company achieved in the first quarter of fiscal 2022 the largest share of the x86 CPU market in its entire history.

This comes even at a time in which rival Intel, after a few generations considered underwhelming, has achieved major leaps in power and efficiency with the 12th Generation Alder Lake line. Mercury says that AMD dominated 27.7% of the market in the first quarter of this year, a share that represents a 2.1% increase over the previous quarter - and 7% over the year prior to the analysis.

AMD also increased its share in the server sector, although its numbers were more discrete in the segment. According to the research firm, the manufacturer holds an 11.6 percent share of the segment, a quarterly increase of 0.9 percent and a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent over previous analyses.
