AMD asks motherboard makers to remove OC options for Ryzen 7 5800X3D

AMD is contacting motherboard manufacturers about not offering the option to overclock the new Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU. According to information obtained by the site VideoCardz, so far there is no information that indicates whether the restriction will be permanent or if there will be future firmwares that will remove it.

TechPowerUp tried to investigate what reasons led AMD to make this decision and was told that the company was "keeping this information to itself" at the current time. The requests would have been made by the company in January this year and it took some time to leak data the impacts it may bring among consumers.

Among the elements that may help explain the situation is the fact that the 5800X3D model is the first from AMD to offer a 96 MB 3D V-Cache associated with an 8-core chip for end consumers. The new configuration may have presented problems when undergoing overclocks, which led AMD to send the request to its partners.
